Subject: Request for support for Audio Collection: Sounds from Space

    Ladies and Gentlemen,

my name is Matthias Bopp and I have been a Ham Radio Amateur since 1979. Some years ago I started to setup a homepage dedicated to Ham Radio and Astronomy, my second hobby. You can find the page a www.dd1us.de.

A section of this homepage is dedicated to Amateur Satellites and other Space Objects like MIR and ISS. I called it "Sounds from Space". I collected audio recordings of various space objects and offer it to those Radio Amateurs, who would are not old enough having been able to listen to the transmissions live or those, who want to listen to it again. The page also contains recordings of satellites presently in orbit, which should help people to be able to identify transmissions they might have received.

As you can see on my page I am still missing audio recordings from a number of satellites. May I ask you for your help to complete my collection ?

Do you have any recordings of older amateur radio satellites ? If you do not have such recordings but might know people who have it please forward this request to them. Many thanks in advance.

    With best regards 55 & 73

    Subject: P3E-Satellite

    Dear OMs,

beginning of September I sent you a letter together with some flyers regarding our new webpage for our P3E-satellite. I am writing to you today because we need the help of all Radio Amateur organisations to make the webpage known to all radio amateurs, especially also in your country.

It would be very helpful for us if you could organise some links on webpages or write articles in various journals. I could also send more flyers to you for distributing as well as the electronic forms of our flyers for publication purposes, if you desire.

Have a look on our pages www.p3e-satellite.org and www.ticket-to-mars.org. All radio amateurs are warmely invited to join us in this project and support this extraordinary campaign.

Attached you will find an article about our 2 pixel actions which you can use for publication, if you desire. I also attach 2 photos for this article.

Should you have any further questions, don't hesitate to contact me.

    Best regards

Put P3E into Orbit and Join the Pixel Action

AMSAT-DL has created a special opportunity for individual participation and support of the successor to AO-10, AO13 and AO-40, currently under construction. All are invited to visit the newly established Internet website, www.p3e-satellite.org, to support this technical challenge through the purchase of pixel fields and to become part of the ambitious amateur radio project.

All together, 4,800 fields of 10x10 pixels can display your name, callsign, a personal picture or logo. Depending on your donation limit to the project, you can reserve as many fields at 50 Euros each as you wish. The background image is a view into the new satellite with its 17 electronics modules.

As special thanks, we prepare a personal certificate for download at the end of the order process and you can win a raffle for exclusive travel to the satellite laboratory and to the launch of P3E. The one who takes the most pixels automatically earns a trip to the launch. Additional trips will be raffled off among the remaining participants. During a visit to the P3E laboratory you can experience close up the construction of the satellite through its critical phases. The trip to the launch, which includes being guest of honor at the launch party, promises to be a unique experience.

Such an exceptional way of being able to participate in an amateur radio project of superlatives will certainly not happen again very often. Following the launch of the Internet site www.p3e-satellite.org on September 1, 2006, you have the best chance to go there yourself. As a special feature there is also the possibility of giving pixel fields to friends or family members. A special gift card can be ordered and personalized for the recipient.

During the AMSAT-UK colloquium we tested the project called "Pixel Action" before an international audience. Three certificates for the allocation of the first three fields were auctioned for around 750 Pounds among the participants. The resonance to this action was enormous and will certainly spread internationally.

A second pixel action is also currently running in parallel to support the AMSAT Mars Mission. It is directed at an expanded target group of individuals whose technological interest goes beyond amateur radio. Under the same conditions, pixel fields can be reserved under www.Ticket-to-Mars.org on two different pictures.

Reservation of pixels and entry of the requested information is performed in several steps. The data transmission occurs over a secure connection and payment may be made by wire transfer, via credit card or through PayPal, the eBay payment service.

For both actions flyers are available, which you can use to inform and encourage colleagues, friends, family or co-workers to join in.

We look forward to numerous clicks and a high level of participation in the actions, which will support further work on the missions.

    Picture captions:

Picture 1: The P3E satellite forms the optical background of the AMSAT-DL action, which offers prizes for exclusive trips to the satellite laboratory and to the launch.

Picture 2: Two additional motives for the Mars Mission should also animate interested persons outside of amateur radio to support the Mars project.

The Eighth ORARI National Conference is scheduled from September 8 to 10, 2006 in Denpasar, Bali. ORARI, Indonesia's IARU member society, holds its national conference every 5 years to elect its new officers and to report the work done by the outgoing officers. The national conference, which is attended by representatives from the regional and local branches, will offer forums to review and update the organization's bylaws as well as to provide recommendations to the government on matters related to amateur radio regulations. A Ham Fair will be held in conjunction with the conference. A special event station, YE9BALI will be on the air from the Ham Fair. The Ham Fair will include various activities ranging from antenna assembling contest, CW contest, eyeball QSO, as well as music and dance performances. In the past, the Ham Fair draws around 6000 people, and this year, organizers expect to have amateur radio visitors from the neighboring countries such as Malaysia, Japan, and Australia. MULTIPLIERS:
    1. each Italian province (110) count 1 (one) multiplier,
    2. each DXCC country (except I & IS0) count 1 (one) multiplier.

The 110 Italian provinces (by call-area) are:
I1: AL, AT, BI, CN, GE, IM, NO, SP, SV, TO, VB, VC.
    IX1: AO.

    2. QSO/HRD with own continent counts 1 (one) point,
    3. QSO/HRD with different continent counts 3 (three) points,
    4. QSO/HRD with any Italian (I & IS0) station counts 10 (ten) points.
The same station can be contacted on the same band once on SSB/CW/RTTY but only the first QSO is good for multipliers credit. PLEASE REMEMBER that I (Italy) and IS0 (Sardinia Island) are NOT country-multipliers.

    FINAL SCORE.
The sum of QSO/points from all bands times the sum of multipliers from all bands.

    SWL.
Listeners are required to log the callsigns of both the station heard and the correspondent station. Score is calculated based only upon the station heard using the same rules as transmitting stations. A callsign may not appear more than 3 (three) times as a correspondent regardless of mode. SWLs MUST log no more than 1 (one) QSO on each line of their log.

    LOGS and SUMMARY SHEET.
Separate logs are necessary for each band. Logs must show all the QSOs data. A summary sheet is required showing all the scoring details, class of entry, name, callsign, full address of the applicant, callsign of other operators and a signed declaration. Logs must be mailed within 30 days from the end of the contest and addressed to: ARI DX Contest, c/o ARI, Via Scarlatti 31, 20124 Milano, Italy.

A printed summary sheet must always be enclosed. Alternatively, logs in ASCII format (or as attached files) may be sent via e-mail addressed to aricontest@ari.it You will receive an acknowledgement of receipt of your log within 48 hours.

    PENALTIES and DISQUALIFICATIONS.
Logs will be carefully checked by the Contest Committee and mistakes may cause a score reduction. Disqualification may apply for: excessive number of unmarked duplicates (more than 2%), violation of the "10 minutes rule" (either for band and mode), excessive declared score, log without the summary sheet. instead to disqualify a log, the Committee may decide to penalize it by erasing a percentage of its score.

AWARDS. A plaque with a certificate will be awarded to the top scoring station in each class. Special plaques can be awarded by the Contest Committee if country/continental/call-area participation will justify the decision. A certificate will be awarded to No. 2, 3, 4, 5 top scoring stations in each class as well as to the top scoring stations in each country in each class.

    FREE SOFTWARE.
Many free software are able to handle ARI DX Contest. Take a visit to ARI DX Contest webpages for download: www.qsl.net/contest_ari

    Subject: Eu Sprint Contest 2006

    Hello!

This e-mail is to invite all contesters to have a go in the European Sprint contests 2006.

Please remember that, starting this year, we made a couple of chages to the Eu Sprint rules.

The first change will apply to ALL the four events. The time has been moved 1 (one) hour ahead. The four Sprints will begin at 16:00 UTC and will end at 19:59 UTC.

The second change will apply only to the two SPRING events. Modes will be switched so the first 2006 Sprint (April 8) will be CW (Manager G4BUO). The second 2006 event (April 15) will be SSB (Manager 9A6XX).

If you're wondering which software to use, DL2NBU's program has been written specially for this contest. It is very much like K1EA's CT, and it is FREE for download from the new Eu Sprint web site http://www.eusprint.com. SD by EI5DI, TRLog by N6TR, WriteLog, Win-Test, N1MM Contest Logger (and many others) all support the Eu Sprint, and if you prefer to log on paper, that's fine as well. We accept any fixed column ASCII file, too.

So, we hope you will give the Sprints a try in April and in October, and then send your logs to eusprint@kkn.net. The full Eu Sprint rules are shown below.

73 from the EU Sprint Gang
    G4BUO, I2UIY, OK2FD & 9A6XX

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------

    About Eu Sprint:
    - download the FREE software,
    - rules in English, Italian, French, Spanish, Portugese, Russian, Czech,
    German, Polish, Greek, Croatian
    - all past results from 1994,
    - download full logs and ubn reports,
    - all time records,
    - find more information about Log Checking,
    - and much more about the Eu Sprint....
You will find everything here: http://www.eusprint.com

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Eu Sprint Contest - 2006

ENTRANTS: any licensed station may enter the Sprint. European stations can work everybody; stations outside of Europe can work only European stations.

CATEGORIES: Single Operator ONLY. Only ONE signal may be aired at one time. Low Power entries (up to 100W) will be indicated by an asterisk (*) in the listing.

    DATES:
    EU SPRINT Spring:
    * CW: first Saturday in April - 8 April 2006 - managed by G4BUO
    * SSB: second Saturday in April - 15 April 2006 - managed by 9A6XX
    EU SPRINT Autumn:
    * SSB: first Saturday in October - 7 October 2006 - managed by I2UIY
    * CW: second Saturday in October - 14 October 2006 - managed by OK2FD

TIME: from 16:00 UTC until 19:59 UTC.

    BANDS: 20, 40 and 80 metres only.
    Pilot frequencies are: SSB: 14.250, 7.050, 3.730. CW: 14.040, 7.025, 3.550

EXCHANGE: all of the following data MUST BE PART OF THE EXCHANGE:
    a) your callsign,
    b) the other station's callsign,
    c) your serial number starting from 001 (RST not required),
    d) your name or nickname.
Please note that BOTH stations MUST repeat BOTH callsigns DURING the exchange. A valid exchange is: "OK2FD de I2UIY 118 Paolo" while "OK2FD 118 Paolo" is NOT a valid exchange.

SPECIAL QSY RULE: if any station initiates a call (by sending CQ, QRZ?, etc.), he is permitted to work ONLY one station on the same frequency. He must thereafter move AT LEAST 2 (two) kHz before he may call another station or before he may solicit again (CQ, QRZ?, etc.) other calls.

VALID CONTACTS: valid contacts are QSOs correctly logged and confirmed. Each operator may use ONE and ONLY one name during the Sprint. If the exchange is copied incorrectly, that operator will receive zero (0) points. In case of miscopied callsigns, both stations will receive zero (0) points for that QSO.

SCORING: each valid QSO counts one 1 (one) point. The final score is the total number of QSOs.

AWARDS: Colorful certificates will be issued to the winners of each Sprint, and to the leaders in each country.

EU SPRINT PLAQUE: A special plaque will also be awarded for the top three scores from all four contests combined. To be eligible for this award an operator must enter at least three of the Sprints in the year. Results will be forwarded as soon as possible to Leagues, magazines and bulletins.

Im sending this to you because many of you watched us over the past few years and wanted to take part again. Can you please pass this on at your club meetings or put it on your websites with a link to the streaming cam? We had hundreds of hams thank us last year for bringing them to hamvention even when they could not actually attend in person. It was a lot of fun.

Itfs back for the 4th year! Streaming video and audio from Hamvention 2006 http://wa5kub.com

"This will be our 4rd year to broadcast live video of our drive to hamvention (550 miles) and then the 3 days outside in the fleamarket. This year the helmet cam will be back. It will let people around the world get a view of all the things we look at as we walk around.

The streaming cam page also has its own chat room and hams from around the world watched, chatted, and enjoyed it the past 3 years.

There are no pop-ups or advertisements. Just something we like to do each year and have fun. It lets hams take part in ham radio if they are too far away to travel or health does not permit it.

Below I have included some information regarding our schedule and the link that people will need to access in case you will put a link on your site. Please spread the word to other hams and ham clubs. The more people we have on, the more fun we will have.

    Streaming Webcast Schedule
We will be broadcasting from the beginning until the end of the show each day Friday May 20th through Sunday May 22th from our outside fleamarket spaces 3350-3351. Please come by and say hello and wave to your loved ones back home.

The "Helmet Cam"will be back again this year. . You will be able to see what we see as we walk around in the fleamarket.

Also watch for us as we convoy from
Memphis, Tn to Dayton, Oh. on WEDNESDAY May 17th and set up our fleamarket space on Thursday May 18th.. This is a 550 mile drive and will take us about 10 hours. We will depart Memphis about 8:00 am CST and arrive Dayton about 7:00 pm EST. This will be our fourth year to broadcast the drive live. Chat with us on the chat screen as we drive. Hams from around the world followed our trip and chatted with us last year. Watch us and try to guess where we are. After hamvention, we will be broadcasting our drive back home. Watch for us Sunday May 21th from about 1:00 pm until about 9:00pm CST.

    The link is http://wa5kub.com

The site is up and running today and will be on 24 by 7 from now until Hamvention. Please visit it, log in and chat with us and others as we test it. We need you to help stress test it. We have recorded video running on it at the present but will switch over to live video when we start our trip. Video clips running now are the Tonight show CW vs text messaging, news clips of us from local tv stations, The Hamband (A video of a ham in a tux and top hat singing a ham song while hanging on his tower at 100 feet, Storm chaser videos, and ICOM videos that were taken at Hamvention over a couple years.

PZ5A operated Multi-Two while PZ5FF, PZ5UE, PZ5CQ operated outside the contest. The event was such a great success that Ramon has since expanded his operation and just completed an independent PZ DX Shack there on his property. Subject: Prewar Radio History

    Dear OMs and YLs,

May I, the German ham DK6YY, ask you for your kind assistance concerning the following matter.

I am engaged in a history research project on prewar radios, including Japan (there period 1925-1940). Does a particular History Section exist in JARL which I could approach for information? Or can you name me an individual Japanese ham who has particular knowledge in the field of prewar radios?

In particular I would like to find out what Japanese companies during the prewar period were engaged in producing radios for the public (for listeners to the NHK home program). I am also interested in identifying some radios of that time of which I have photographs.

Then I would be grateful if you could provide me with the E-mail address of the NHK Museum of Broadcasting in Atogoyama. Many years ago I visited there, and I think they may also be able to help me to some extend.

By the way, in 1999 I obtained from your league the ADXA award (no. 3106). It was good fun working Japanese hams and others in the Far East.

Thanking you in advance for your kind assistance and vy 73,

Australian Special Event Stations - Commonwealth Games

The 18th Commonwealth Games in Melbourne Australia, contested by 4,500 athletes from 70 countries, will be celebrated by two special event callsigns, AX3MCG and AX3GAMES.

AX3MCG (Melbourne Commonwealth Games) will be QRV daily 1-31 March, with operators David VK3EW and Peter VK3QI aiming to achieve at least DXCC. A multi-operator roster will also activate AX3GAMES generally QRV daily on all bands. Special Commemorative QSLs for both callsigns will be available via the VK3 Buro. AX3MCG and AX3GAMES are the only special event callsigns issued by Australian Communications and Media Authority to celebrate the Commonwealth Games. Individual VK's may also substitute the AX prefix during the games period.

Dear friends, my name is Pierangelo Pensa and I am an Italian Radioamateur as IK2IHY.

I am a proud owner of a JRC JST-135 HF RTX and I'd like to add an RS232 interface, its model number is CMH 741. The problem is that I'm unable to find one over the Internet. The JRC's site has no infos about out of catalog radios. The only board that I have found is at the http://yamaga.com/izumi/stock/stock_23.htm website, I have sent 2 mails but I had no replays. I am completely unable to read Japanese writing, so I feel quite uncomfortable with the website.

Can you plase tell me if the site I have found can pack one board for me? And can you please tell me some places where to search for my board?

Many thanks in advance dear friends, I wait for your reply.

    Gentlemen,

Can you tell me if there is any interest in Japan for my JST 135 A? This is my back-up radio.

I have owned the radio many years but have moved to ICOM and Yaesu ham radio equipment for principal operating.

There seems to be no market here in the USA for the JST.

I am interested in selling the unit or trading toward an ICOM 7000.

    Thank you for any suggestions!
