K4E - Special Event Emergency Communications Exercise in Summerville, SC, Dorchester County, Grid locater EM93, on April 21 and 22 2009.

When not passing event traffic, K4E will be available for QSOs on 80m thru 15m and 2m FM. QSL via W4NSC.

K4E will be manned from noon EDT (1600Z) on 21 April through 18:00 EDT (2200z) on 22 April.

This training exercise is to demonstrate the cooperation needed between the firemen, policemen, hospital workers, hams, and other public service personnel through out SC in time of an emergency.

South Carolina is prone to hurricanes and it has been determined that a major earthquake occurring in the greater Charleston, SC area would divide the area into 18 "islands" due to damage to infrastructure such as bridges and roads. Each of these "islands" is equipped with a structure containing various emergency supplies and Amateur radio equipment and antennas. Each POD has a generator and is environmentally controlled. This exercise is a test of one of those "islands.

Subject: Weekly GB2RS News on Internet

    Dear OM,

I wonder if I might draw your attention to the MP3 version of the RSGB weekly news which I have put out weekly for some time now - in fact about 11 years! This is an "official" arrangement with the RSGB. Other newsreaders broadcast; I read the news on mp3 files for OMs to access wordwide on Internet.

    The link is http://homepage.ntlworld.com/g4njh2/rsgb.html.

It is uploaded on Wed or Thu latest for downloading direct from the page or some use an ipod type link through the RSGB pages. The text is the GB2RS script which is read on the next Sunday and which appears on the RSGB site.

You probably carry a link to the RSGB website on your own pages, but I wonder whether you might care also to carry a link to my pages or at least remind our friends in Japan that they can listen to the RSGB news anytime from the above link.

I have been monitoring my hits recently to the site and I see there are no listeners from your part of the world - probably because peope don't know of the service. This is a missed opportunity really, hence the note to you today.

The news is about the UK as well as other countries. In some countries they carry the news over 2m relays and it is heard widely and appreciated particularly by ex-G etc as well as by their own amateurs who may have friends abroad.

I know too how many Japanese stations like to improve their English. This may also be a help to them, besides the advantages of the news bulletins themselves.

    Best wishes,

    73 de
