JARL Ham Fair 2008 Report
JARL Ham Fair 2008 was held at Tokyo Big Sight, Ariake, Tokyo on August 23rd (Saturday) and 24th (Sunday) 2008. We had about 29,000 participants for two days. Thanks to all visitors, manufacturers, retailers, clubs and volunteers at JARL Ham Fair 2008.

There were a lot of visitors in front of the entrance till opening the gate.

A lot of young participants were attending to Ham Fair with their families and had enjoyed to see and touch various equipments.
 
Forums
AMATEUR SATELITES Forum
Forum about recent small amateur home made satellites, such as SEEDS CUTE1.7+APD2. Introducing about UNITEC-1 (UNIsec Technological Experiment Carrier-1) which may be the first amateur satellite going to Venus will be launched in 2010.
D-STAR Forum
D-STAR is a digital communication system which developed by JARL, and there are more than 120 repeaters in Japan now.
D-STAR is now operating in Japan, the US and Europe. The users of those countries were presented recent operations at the forum and introducing forthcoming Global D-STAR Network.

The first prizes for the contest of home built equipments and paintings are awarded by the Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications. Awards Presentation to the Winners of the UHF Contest in JA1 Area
 
HOME BUILT EQUIPMENTS AND PAINTINGS CONTESTS WINNERS
JARL is sponsoring the contests for promoting amateur radio every time at Ham Fair. One is for paintings concerning amateur radio for less than 18 years old youth. The other is for home built equipments.
 
 
Special Event Station 8J1A
JARL President JA1AN had made the first QSO at 8J1A.
Many visitors had operated 8J1A at the site of JARL Ham Fair.
 
DXCC CARD CHECKING
NN1N checking DXCC applications.
ARRL MVP Manager Mr. Dave Patton, NN1N had participated to check cards for DXCC applications this year. There were 240 applicants this year for 2 days checking at the Big Site and 2 days at the office. Many applicants were waiting to apply their DXCC applications from early hours.

CLUBS AND RETAILERS
There were more than 160 club booths this year, they exhibited their club history, the reports of their works, antique equipments and more. Many retailers had their booths, selling goods relating to amateur radio, QSL cards print shop, shops selling new, old and antique radios and many other goods. Many visitors were at these booths.

AMATEUR RADIO EQUIPMENT MANUFACTURES
Many amateur radio equipment manufactures exhibited their new equipments at their booths. There were lots of visitors at their booths.
 
EYEBALL QSO PARTY
Eyeball QSO party was held at the New Tokyo restaurant from 17:30 JST on August 23rd. The room was crowded by about 180 participants to this party. Those were members of JARL, directors of JARL, a manager of Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, representatives of member societies of IARU and some foreign radio amateurs. The participants of the party had chatted and greeted their amateur radio activities each other.
